Yothu Yindi

Deep Tuesday · 4am

Tom is listening to Yothu Yindi. Treaty. Mandawuy Yunupingu made a song that became a political event and then a ringtone and that trajectory tells you everything about this country. 'Tribal Voice' is an album that demands you sit with your discomfort. I'd like to understand more but it's important to pack this parcel for the morning post. Four in the morning and the street is empty and I'm historically humbled. Rune reading came up with Othala which means heritage and ancestral land and I sat with that for a while. He had a voice that carried forty thousand years.

"If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together."
